A New Location...

Jazmyn spent the day with Hubby today, as usual, but he took her to a conservation area for some new socialization! Heber Down Conservation Area didn't know what was coming. She thought he was taking her to training (where she is really reactive), so naturally she began barking and being excited.

She was calm in the car (a rare event lol). She barked and made her entrance but once they got going on the trails, she was really curious. Paul took her off the path and into the creek area. She was really curious about the water, but hesitant. They took a walk around the trails, and came back to the creek. She jumped in really excited, but also shocked!! She was more nervous when the bottom of the creek was sandy, but the rocky smooth bottom was much better. She'd never been in the water before so I think we're going to have a water baby on our hands.

She saw ducks, other dogs, a pond, and climbed a huge set of stairs. She saw a small white dog, barked of course, and the small dog backed off. She really likes sticks. I mean really really likes sticks lol!!

Today was a great day for her, even with her barking at people and dogs. Her curiosity and confidence levels were high and she was really good in the car. Both of us are usually in the car, so it was a good test with just Paul driving. Completely passed out on the way home.

More trips to Heber Downs will follow!!

Oh and a new development, Haz has discovered the couch. Ugh, "sigh" lol

Our Story So Far....

Jazmyn came home on Hubby's birthday (January 7, 2012).  She was born November 11, 2011...our little lucky puppy.  Christmas and New Years felt like they took FOREVER to get through and the wait was so hard!  But how could it not be, when you're waiting for THIS:

Owning Jazmyn, has been both a challenge and a joy!  I never had dogs growing up, but Hubby did.  I had done my research and was "ready" for the puppy days, but man oh man, it was way crazier than expected!  Getting up every 2 hours at night was making me loopy, but thankfully around 12 weeks that all ended and we have a pup that now LOVES to sleep in her crate the entire night peacefully.

Jazmyn developed Coccidia shortly after coming home, which was treated promtly, but took about a month for her to really fight it all off.  Right around 12 weeks it was gone, and after her 2nd shots, off into the world we went...only it wasn't exactly how we expected it to go.

At 12 weeks we started Puppy Kindergarten and the first class went well.  She was hesitant but came around.  The next week went better, and Jazmyn engaged in puppy play.  Weeks 3 and 4, not so good as Jazmyn had become dog reactive around 15 weeks, after she was nearly attacked by an off leash Rottweiler in our neighbourhood.  Things have been a challenge since....

Her obedience is fantastic, at home.  Her commands are great.  Sit, Lay Down, Stand, Leave It, Off (furniture, counter surfing and jumping on people) are strong, and her tricks include Spin, Jump, Speak, Quiet, Paw, High Five, and will weave in and out of our legs.  She's learning retrieve and is becoming much much better at it.  Outside of the home, Jazmyn is distracted and is reactive towards mostly dogs, but also people on occasion.

We are in the process of now seeking out the help of a private trainer to help US learn to manage Jazmyn's reactivity and to help introduce her to stable dogs.  Jazmyn currently lacks introduction skills with dogs and has poor manners.  Whatever we can do to help her out, we will, we love the girl!
